Taking Writing Inspiration from Images

Images are so powerful. I’ve written stories from photo prompts for years, and very often find just looking at an image can bring a complete story into existence.

Another fairyland house. This is where Kathy hides away in the forest. It’s her den, her sanctuary, her secret place – that’s not a secret anymore. They’ve found her, and now she has nowhere to run.

A barred doorway. What could be more intriguing? What’s through there? Why is it all locked up? Has something dreadful happened in there, or does it hold a dangerous secret that must be protected?

The narrow path winding up to the tower invites exploration. Who, or what, lives in the tower? And if it’s abandoned, what happened to make the owners desert it?

Do images inspire you too? What kind of images do you like? People? Animals? Cities or landscapes? They all have stories to tell.
